Highlights from Previous Years

Tyrš Region Hike

Three Hills

Kvádrberk Forest Park with Stoličná Hill and the Emperor's Viewpoint

Stoličná Hill, also known as the table mountain Kvádrberk, rises above Děčín on the right bank of the Elbe River at an elevation of 289 metres above sea level. It offers visitors magnificent views, particularly of Děčín and the Elbe Valley. Part of the forest park is the Emperor's Viewpoint, a viewing terrace with spectacular panoramic scenery.

Kvádrberk Forest Park is located on the southern foothills of Stoličná Hill, which towers above the city of Děčín. The summit, reaching 289 metres above sea level, is situated on the right bank of the Elbe River at the northern edge of the city. The name “Stoličná Hill” was created artificially and is rarely used by local residents, whereas “Kvádrberk” is commonly used to refer to the entire Děčín Highlands area.

Shepherd's Wall in Děčín – Stunning Views of the Elbe River

The romantic viewpoint known as Shepherd's Wall is located on a rocky promontory rising majestically above the city of Děčín on the left bank of the Elbe River. It offers beautiful panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

The viewpoint stands directly opposite Děčín Castle. It is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Czech Republic. The site, popularly known as “Nebíčko” ("Little Heaven"), has existed since 1892. Originally, a wooden structure stood here, which was replaced in 1905 by a stone inn with an observation tower designed as a fashionable imitation of a romantic castle.

Děčín Castle

Situated above the confluence of the Elbe and Ploučnice rivers, Děčín Castle is one of the most important historical landmarks in Northern Bohemia. It is also the birthplace of Dr. Miroslav Tyrš, co-founder of the Sokol movement.

For centuries, the site served first as a Romanesque and later a Gothic castle of the Přemyslid dynasty. It was subsequently acquired by the Lords of Bynov, who transformed it into a Renaissance jewel of Děčín. After they left the country because of their Protestant faith, the castle was purchased by the Thun family. It was later expanded in the Baroque style, with the reconstruction designed by the renowned architect G. B. Santini. Among the many distinguished visitors to Děčín Castle was Frédéric Chopin, who composed his famous Děčín Waltz here. The castle housed one of the largest libraries in the region, established by the Thun family, and became a centre of culture and learning that attracted scholars from far and wide. During the period of Soviet military occupation, the castle was used as barracks and military storage facilities. Since then, it has undergone extensive restoration and today welcomes visitors to explore its rich history as well as the beauty of its castle gardens.
